Humankind is innately infused with the entrepreneurial spirit. Since the beginning of our existence, we have been creating solutions to our problems. If there was a problem or a need, there was always someone who was trying to solve it.
At the Leonardo da Vinci’s Exhibit in Florence, you can see an astounding number of inventions that he created during his time, without electricity, mobile phones, or computers.
Finding Extraordinary Solutions to Problems
Defending cities and making technology better was on everybody’s mind back then and Leonardo was no exception. Among many other things, he invented a cannon, an escalator for scaling the city walls, a scuba diving system, an automated hammer for the blacksmiths, and a barbecue.
He was also obsessed with the idea of flying. He made sketches of helicopters and parachutes way before technology could support these concepts. Although we find flying to be a very mundane activity today, you can imagine that the 15th-century market wasn’t ready for that jump yet.
Changing Our Understanding of What’s Possible
Leonardo Da Vinci’s vision of the world was way ahead of his time.
The world knows him as the author of the famous and mysterious Mona Lisa’s smile, but he spent a big part of his life envisioning ideas that would answer the needs of his contemporaries and change the world for the better.
While he was able to turn many of these ideas into reality, some were so advanced that the technology to build them hadn’t been invented yet.
The fact that the world wasn’t prepared for many of his ideas didn’t stop him from dedicating his life to them. It made him not only one of the greatest inventors, but also one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time.
He knew back then that failure doesn’t exist. You either win or you learn which could be just one of the most important entrepreneurial lessons out there.

We are all inventors at our hearts, but not all of us dare to embark on this never-ending journey called entrepreneurship. While we know that the best ideas and products are the ones that solve a certain need or a problem that doesn’t mean they will always work.

It is important to use your failures as entrepreneurial lessons, pick up the pieces, learn how to do it better, and continue your journey. While you are on this journey to launch a product, app, or business try to remember that success is found in your heart. If you want to be an entrepreneur, you need to have the same spirit, determination and drive that Leonardo had. Don’t be frustrated when you run into a roadblock or discouraged when things take longer than you expect. Use all of those things as opportunities to get it right. Bring something out to market that your audience is going love and that you’re going to be proud of.
